Editorial Policy
The short version
- Every article is written from peer-reviewed research and official sources, and cites them.
- Manufacturer information is used only for product facts, never as evidence that a product works.
- We fix errors promptly and say so on the page. Every article is reviewed at least once a year.
- Sponsored content is always labeled "Advertisement", including where it appears in our article lists.
TopPick Supplements (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent online publication available at toppicksupplements.com. Our job is to tell you what the evidence actually shows, including when it’s weak. These are the standards every article is held to.
Who writes our content
Every article, guide and review is researched and written by the TopPick Editorial Team. We work from peer-reviewed studies and official sources such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), PubMed and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
How we choose sources
We use three kinds of sources, in this order:
- Peer-reviewed research. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses first, then randomized controlled trials, then observational studies, found mainly through PubMed and Cochrane.
- Government and official health bodies. For example the NIH and its institutes (NIDDK, NCCIH, Office of Dietary Supplements), the FDA and professional medical societies.
- Manufacturer data, for product facts only. Ingredients, doses, price and label directions come from the manufacturer or the product label. We never treat a manufacturer’s own claims or marketing as evidence that a product works.
How we weigh them:
- We prioritize systematic reviews, meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials, then observational studies. Animal and lab studies are clearly labeled as such.
- We link to primary sources (PubMed, peer-reviewed journals) and to official bodies such as the NIH and its institutes (NIDDK, NCCIH, Office of Dietary Supplements), the FDA and professional medical societies.
- We never cite a study we haven’t read.
- We name the limitations: small samples, short durations, industry funding, and multi-ingredient formulas that make it impossible to credit a single ingredient.
References on every article
Every article lists its references at the end, numbered in the order they’re cited in the text. Each claim links to its source so you can check it yourself.
Update schedule
Each article shows the date it was last updated. We review every article, guide and review at least once every 12 months, and sooner when new research, a safety warning or a product change affects what we’ve written. The “Updated on” date only changes when we make a substantive change, not for typo fixes.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we want to know. Email contact@toppicksupplements.com with the page URL and, if you can, a source.
- We review every correction request, usually within 5 business days.
- Factual errors are fixed promptly. When a correction changes a claim, a conclusion or a number, we add a short note at the end of the article saying what changed and when.
- Minor fixes (spelling, broken links, formatting) are made without a note.
Independence
Our editors decide conclusions without regard to affiliate relationships. A product earning us a commission has no bearing on what we say about it. Brands can’t pay to review or change our editorial content.
Sponsored content
Some pages on this domain are paid advertisements. They’re labeled “Advertisement” above the headline and carry a paid-advertisement note at the bottom of the page. They may appear alongside our articles on the home page, topic pages and article lists, always marked “Advertisement”. They can also appear in search engines and our site search, always labeled as advertisements. They aren’t part of our editorial content. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Not medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical advice. Our content is for information only and doesn’t replace a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist. See our Health & Product Disclaimer.
